We have answered some of the most common questions to help you better understand this solution and make informed decisions with confidence.

Are there any waiting periods applicable to these disability benefits?

No waiting period applies to either the Occupational Disability or Functional Disability benefit/ cover.

How will my claim be assessed if I have both Occupational and Functional Disability benefits at the same time?

If you hold both benefits, your claim is first reviewed under the Occupational Disability criteria. If it does not meet those standards, it will then be evaluated according to the Functional Disability definitions.

Is it possible to continue claiming disability benefits after turning 66?

Upon reaching the age of 66, the Occupational Disability Provider benefit is automatically converted into a Severe Illness benefit. PPS will provide 100% of the sum assured should you be diagnosed with any of the specified severe illnesses as listed in Appendix D of the PPS Provider™ Policy.

Who will determine my claim outcome?

Your claim will be assessed by the PPS Medical Officers Committee. This committee consists of medical, product and claim experts.

What disability benefits does PPS provide?

PPS provides the following disability benefits:

  • Occupational Disability benefit
  • Occupational Disability benefit with the Occupation Specific Rider benefit
  • Functional Disability benefit

These benefits are available under the PPS Professional Disability Provider™ Product.

When can I submit a disability claim?

OCCUPATIONAL DISABILITY BENEFIT/COVER
A claim may be submitted if you suffer from a condition (disease, injury or accident) that is classified as permanent, significant and severe and that substantially restricts your ability to perform your own profession, as well as any other profession suitable for an individual with similar or comparable qualifications.

OCCUPATIONAL DISABILITY BENEFIT/COVER WITH THE OCCUPATION SPECIFIC RIDER BENEFIT
A claim may be submitted if you suffer from a condition (disease, injury or accident) that is classified as permanent, significant and severe and that substantially restricts your ability to perform your own specifically nominated occupation.

FUNCTIONAL DISABILITY BENEFIT/COVER
The assessment for this benefit is conducted independently of the claimant’s capacity to fulfil their professional responsibilities. Should an individual satisfy the specified criteria for any of the listed functional disability claim definitions.

Will PPS request additional medical information?

Potentially. During the assessment process, PPS may request additional information from you or your treating medical practitioner if more information is required to assess your claim. This may include medical reports, clinical notes, questionnaires or referrals to an independent medical specialist.
