What disability benefits does PPS provide?

PPS provides the following disability benefits:

  • Occupational Disability benefit
  • Occupational Disability benefit with the Occupation Specific Rider Benefit
  • Functional Disability benefit

These benefits are available under the PPS Professional Disability Provider™ Product.

When can I submit a disability claim?

You may submit a claim if you are unable to perform your occupation or meet the applicable disability criteria while your Professional Disability Provider™ benefit is active. Claims must relate to an insured event covered by your policy and be submitted within the required timeframes.

Will PPS request additional medical information?

Yes. During the assessment process, PPS may request additional information from you or your treating medical practitioner if more information is required to assess your claim. This may include medical reports, clinical notes, questionnaires or referrals to an independent medical specialist.

Who completes the medical declaration?

The Declaration by Doctor must be completed by your treating medical doctor or dentist who is registered with the Health Professions Council of South Africa (HPCSA), or an equivalent recognised medical body outside South Africa, and approved by PPS. Claim forms completed by allied health professionals such as psychologists, physiotherapists or occupational therapists are not accepted
